RPF Northeast Frontier Railway Achieves Major Success in Combatting Human Trafficking and Theft
Desk Report, June 10, 2024: In a concerted effort to combat human trafficking and safeguard passengers’ belongings, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recently executed comprehensive checks and drives spanning from May 17 to May 31.
During this focused period, the RPF successfully apprehended 32 individuals implicated in these criminal activities. Among the noteworthy accomplishments were the rescues of 48 individuals, comprising 45 minors and 3 women, from various locations. Additionally, three human traffickers were brought to justice, and stolen passenger possessions valued at approximately Rs 4,95,000 were recovered.
A standout incident occurred on May 21, where a collaborative effort between RPF units in Kishanganj (KNE) and Katihar (KIR), under the Special Investigation Branch (SIB), led to the rescue of three minor boys at Kishanganj railway station. Subsequently, two human traffickers were detained during this operation and handed over, alongside the minors, to the Officer-in-Charge of Government Railway Police (OC, GRP) in Kishanganj for further legal proceedings.
Likewise, on May 16, a joint endeavor involving RPF units at Jalpaiguri Road (JPE) and Alipurduar (APDJ) resulted in the rescue of a missing girl from train 15658 DN (Brahmaputra Express) at Jalpaiguri Road railway station. A suspected human trafficker was promptly apprehended and turned over to local law enforcement authorities.
Throughout various incidents, RPF teams exhibited remarkable vigilance, apprehending suspects and recovering stolen mobile phones and other valuables, significantly curbing thefts and ensuring the safety of passengers.
