Security Forces Conduct Extensive Search Operations in Manipur’s Hill and Valley Districts
Desk Report, March 21, 2024: In a concerted effort to maintain law and order in Manipur’s hill and valley districts, security forces carried out rigorous search operations in vulnerable fringe regions. The operations, conducted yesterday, yielded significant results in uncovering illicit armaments and potentially dangerous materials.
From the Thoubal District operation alone, security personnel seized a substantial cache of weaponry, including 01 INSAS Rifle chambered in 5.56mm, accompanied by its magazine, 05 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 02 HE Hand Grenades, and various other munitions such as a Tube Launcher, WP GREN No. 80 MK-1 shells, Tear Smoke Shells, and Cartridges for Anti-Riot purposes. Additionally, a Combat Helmet was among the confiscated items, underscoring the seriousness of the operation.
Simultaneously, in a separate operation carried out in Imphal East District, security forces uncovered an extensive array of armaments and explosives. Among the seized items were an INSAS Rifle chambered in 5.56mm, a .303 Rifle with an empty magazine, and a 9mm Pistol with its magazine. Further discoveries included ammunition stockpiles, comprising 38 live rounds of .303 caliber, along with a variety of firearms such as pumpi guns, AK-47 rounds, SLR cartridges, and 12 bore rounds. The haul also encompassed an assortment of explosive devices, tear smoke canisters, and a broken magazine of an AK-56 Rifle.
