Passenger Killed, Dozens Injured in Severe Turbulence on London to Singapore Flight
Desk Report, May 21, 2024: In a rare and tragic event, a passenger was killed and 30 others were injured due to severe turbulence on a flight from London to Singapore. The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 21, and has been confirmed by Singapore Airlines. The plane made an emergency landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The Boeing 777-300ER, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members, was enroute to Singapore when it was forced to divert. The emergency landing took place at 15:45 local time on May 21, 2024.
In a statement, the airline detailed, “Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, operating from London (Heathrow) to Singapore on 20 May 2024, encountered severe turbulence enroute. The aircraft diverted to Bangkok and landed at 15:45 local time on 21 May 2024.”
The statement continued, “We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board the Boeing 777-300ER. Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.”
