Four Smugglers Arrested with Large Ganja Haul at Assam-Bengal Border
Agomani, June 02, 2024: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Chagolia police apprehended four individuals with a substantial haul of Ganja at the Assam-Bengal border. The operation, conducted in the Dhubri district, resulted in the seizure of 188 kilograms of Ganja being transported from Tripura to Siliguri, West Bengal.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rupan Sarkar and Susanta Deb from Tripura, along with Arjun Roy and Jakir Hussain of Bidyadabri, Dhubri. The contraband was discovered in two luxury vehicles, including a Maruti Suzuki Brezza without a registration number. The second vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01 BR 8260, was also impounded by the Police.
The estimated market value of the seized Ganja is approximately Rs 10 lakh. This operation marks a significant success in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The Chagolia police, led by their vigilant team, have once again demonstrated their commitment to maintaining law and order by thwarting this attempt to smuggle illegal substances across state borders. The arrested smugglers are currently in custody and will face legal proceedings as per the law.
