Assam Government Signs MoU with Visva Bharati University to Establish Srimanta Sankaradev Chair
Guwahati, August 30, 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Assam and Visva Bharati University, West Bengal, to establish a Srimanta Sankaradev Chair at the university. This partnership marks a significant step towards extending the study and research of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankaradev and his Bhakti Movement beyond the borders of Assam, contributing to a broader cultural and academic discourse.
The establishment of the Srimanta Sankaradev Chair at Visva Bharati University aims to promote scholarly research on the Bhakti Movement, with a particular focus on the teachings and works of Srimanta Sankaradev. The Chair will serve as a hub for doctoral and post-doctoral research, facilitating a deeper understanding of the historical, cultural, and literary aspects of the movement. It will also organize seminars, conferences, and lectures to disseminate knowledge and foster dialogue on this vital chapter of Indian spirituality and cultural heritage.
Chief Minister Sarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Visva Bharati University for its collaboration in this initiative.
