Assam Police STF Intercepts Drug Trafficker with Heroin Valued at ₹4 Crore
Guwahati: In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police arrested an alleged drug trafficker and seized heroin valued at ₹4 crore in Kamrup district’s Hajo. The operation took place on Friday based on credible intelligence.
The STF had received input that narcotics were being transported from Mizoram to a district in lower Assam using a Maruti Ritz vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01 DB 7121. Acting promptly on the tip-off, the STF team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalyan Kumar Pathak, intercepted the suspected vehicle at Pakhamela Chowk in Hajo.
Upon thorough inspection, authorities discovered 41 soap cases containing 533 grams of heroin. The contraband was concealed in hidden chambers within the vehicle, highlighting the trafficker’s attempt to evade detection.
The accused, identified as Manab Deb, a resident of Lakhipur in Cachar district, was immediately apprehended by the STF team. The seized heroin is estimated to be worth ₹4 crore in the international market, marking a major success in Assam’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
