Swapnil Kusale Secures Bronze in Paris Olympic
Sports Desk, August 01, 2024: On August 1, 2024, Swapnil Kusale won his first Olympic bronze and third medal for India in the 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Paris Olympics. Liu Yukun from China claimed gold with 463.6 points, while Serhiy Kulish of Ukraine took silver with 461.3 points. Kusale scored an aggregate of 451.4 points over six rounds.
Kusale, competing in his first Olympics, finished seventh in the qualification rounds. He secured his Olympic quota by placing fourth in the World Championships in Cairo. In the same event, Kusale was part of the Indian men’s team that won bronze.
This marks India’s third medal in the Paris Olympics, all in shooting. Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal tally with a bronze in the 10m air pistol event. She, along with Sarabjot Singh, also won bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Kusale’s achievement on his social media handle, ‘X’. He stated, “Exceptional performance by Swapnil Kusale! Congrats to him for winning the bronze medal in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions at the #ParisOlympics2024. His performance is special because he’s shown great resilience and skills. He is also the first Indian athlete to win a medal in this category. Every Indian is filled with happiness.”
