Traffic Advisory: Old Saraighat Bridge to Close for Repairs, Alternative Routes Announced
Guwahati, August 10, 2024: In a recent press advisory issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati, significant traffic diversions have been announced in light of the proposed repair work on the Old Saraighat Bridge. The repairs, to be undertaken by the Northeast Frontier Railway, will commence at 11 PM on August 10, 2024, and continue until 5 AM on August 11, 2024.
During this period, the Old Saraighat Bridge will be entirely closed to all forms of vehicular and pedestrian movement. As a result, vehicles from both sides will need to use the new Saraighat Bridge for transit. Specific changes in traffic flow include a diversion for vehicles coming from Amingaon to Guwahati, which will be required to use the new bridge instead of the old one.
To facilitate the increased load, the new Saraighat Bridge will be adapted for two-way traffic with the installation of traffic cones in the center. Despite these measures, authorities anticipate potential traffic congestion due to the reduced capacity, especially in the areas connected by the bridge.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Guwahati, has advised the public to plan their journeys accordingly and to avoid using the Saraighat Bridge during this time, if possible, by opting for alternative routes.
