Union Minister J.P. Nadda and Assam CM Lay Foundation for Key Health Projects
Guwahati: Assam, witnessed a significant boost to its healthcare infrastructure with the inauguration of key development projects. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, J.P. Nadda, and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid foundation stones for transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing public health services in the Darrang district.
Among the highlights was the foundation stone for the Darrang Medical College, a much-anticipated project set to address the region’s healthcare and educational needs. The leaders also initiated the construction of a 50-bedded Critical Care Block at Mangaldai Civil Hospital. This advanced facility is expected to bolster critical care services and support emergency medical needs.
Additional developments include the launch of a new building and infrastructure upgrades for the Block Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Sipajhar. These projects underscore the joint efforts of the Central and State Governments to improve healthcare access and quality in the region.
During his visit, J.P. Nadda inspected multiple ongoing healthcare projects in Darrang, highlighting the government’s commitment to the district’s progress. Ministers Ashok Singhal and Keshab Mahanta, along with MP Dilip Saikia and MLA Paramananda Rajbongshi, were present to witness the landmark event.
Another notable event was the inauguration of the Library and Informatics Centre at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH). As one of India’s oldest mental health institutions, LGBRIMH plays a pivotal role in providing advanced psychiatric care in the Northeast. The new facilities aim to enhance its research capabilities and improve patient care standards.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the importance of these initiatives for Assam’s growth. He highlighted the Central Government’s active role in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure and expressed hope for accelerated development.
The event also included a meeting of the LGBRIMH Board of Governors, further cementing the institution’s plans for future advancements. By prioritizing research and clinical excellence, these projects are expected to benefit both patients and medical professionals across the Northeast.
