Assam Police Nab Youth for Allegedly Assisting Bangladeshi Resident’s Illegal Entry
Dhubri, Augsut 20, 2024: A youth from Assam has been arrested for allegedly facilitating the illegal entry of a Bangladeshi national into the state. The arrest was made by officials from the Sukhchar Police Station in the South Salmara-Mankachar district, underscoring the ongoing challenges of illegal immigration in the region.
The accused, identified as Ali Hussain, hails from Hajirhat village within the jurisdiction of the Sukhchar Police Station. According to police reports, Hussain is accused not only of assisting the Bangladeshi resident in entering India illegally but also of providing shelter in the char areas of South Salmara-Mankachar district.
The arrest follows a tip-off, and Hussain is now in police custody for further investigation. The South Salmara-Mankachar district police are intensively questioning him to gather more information about his involvement in the illegal activities. Authorities aim to uncover additional details that may lead to further arrests or actions against those involved in facilitating illegal immigration.
This incident is linked to a recent arrest by Dhubri police, who detained a woman identified as Lipi Akhtar at Jogomaya Ghat in Dhubri town on Monday evening. During her interrogation, Akhtar admitted to crossing into Assam illegally with Hussain’s assistance, for which she reportedly paid him 2,500 Bangladeshi Taka. She confessed to entering Assam the day before her arrest and revealed that she was part of a larger group involved in this illegal migration.
Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify further suspects linked to this illegal immigration network. The recent arrests highlight the persistent challenges posed by illegal immigration in the border areas and the necessity for sustained vigilance to combat such activities.
