Digital Arrest Scam: Guwahati-Mumbai Police Nab Accused in ₹21 Lakh Fraud Case
Guwahati; January 30, 2025: In a coordinated crackdown on cybercrime, the Guwahati Police and Mumbai Crime Branch have arrested Biswajit Das, accused of orchestrating a ₹21 lakh digital arrest scam. The joint operation was conducted by a team from Noonmati Police Station, leading to Das’s arrest at his temporary residence in Noonmati, Guwahati.
The accused, originally from Tarabari in Barpeta, allegedly defrauded an elderly citizen from Mumbai. According to officials, the victim received a call from a scammer impersonating an officer from the Directorate of Enforcement. The fraudster falsely accused the victim of financial irregularities and coerced them into transferring ₹21 lakh to a bank account linked to YTSYl Wellness Multi Trade Pvt Ltd.
Investigators tracked the fraudulent transactions and identified Das as a key suspect. Following the arrest, legal proceedings have been initiated. Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious of such scams and verify any suspicious calls claiming to be from law enforcement agencies.
